A phone as a smart dash cam for everyday drives
A modern phone already has the hardware for drive recording: a quality camera, GPS, video processing and internet connectivity. The standard camera app does not give drivers the whole workflow. A useful phone dash cam needs speed, GPS coordinates, street name, map, date and time in the recording. It also needs background recording, so navigation can stay visible during the drive. That turns the phone into a practical tool for drivers, travel and sharing finished routes.
A phone dash cam with driving data directly in the video
DashCam Travel handles drive recording as a complete workflow, not just as a camera button. The app records video in the background, adds speed, GPS coordinates, street name, map, date and time directly into the final recording, and accounts for navigation staying in the foreground. The biggest technical challenge was the difference between Android devices: manufacturers adjust battery management, camera behavior and background app execution.
A long-running app with real users
DashCam Travel has been available on Google Play for over 10 years, reached more than 300,000 downloads, has over 4,000 monthly active users and went through more than 250 updates. It shows experience with an Android product that has to work long term in real conditions: in a car, during navigation, across different devices and through changes in Google Play rules.
