Czech affirmations and quotes were missing from the market
At the time the project started, the market lacked an app with positive affirmations and quotes in Czech. Users could find international content, but Czech and Slovak texts for daily motivation were not available in a simple mobile app.
There was also no clear place where people could save their own positive texts and optionally share them with others. The author needed control over what stayed private and what could reach other users after approval.
Daily affirmations, quotes and user-generated content in one product
The app connected daily content, language settings and a personal affirmation library into one workflow. The user could choose whether to show affirmations, quotes or both, and content was filtered by type, language and popularity. The Android app and web supported affirmations and quotes in the following languages: English, Czech/Slovak, French, Indonesian, German, Polish, Russian and Spanish.
The unique part was user-generated content. Affirmations were entered by users themselves. Private content stayed only on the author's device. If the author allowed sharing, the affirmation first had to be approved in the administration and only then appeared to other users. Like/dislike helped rank the best affirmations and quotes by popularity.
The project also included a web app with administration for content management. The Android app supported notifications, a widget, setting an affirmation or quote as the home screen wallpaper, Firebase backend, in-app billing and Google Play distribution.
Own Android product with a web app and 5,000+ downloads
Affirmations was the first app on Google Play where I learned Android development. It combined an Android app, a web app with administration and a database with more than 1,000 affirmations from users. It reached 5,000+ downloads on Google Play and was free, without ads and available to everyone. In-app purchases worked as an option to support further development.
I later discontinued the project because I did not have enough time for further development. The project gave me practical experience with a mobile app, community content, private mode, notifications, widget, web administration and public distribution.
